Everyone benefits from nonprofits

Ten ways a nonprofit in Muncie and Delaware County has (probably) impacted your life.

  1. If you were born in Muncie, your first days outside of the womb were likely spent at a nonprofit organization - IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital. Nearly half of our country’s hospitals are nonprofit.

  2. Do you enjoy going to outdoor festivals or concerts? You can thank a nonprofit organization like Muncie Downtown Development, Muncie Symphony Orchestra, or Minnetrista.

  3. There’s no better way to beat a hot summer day than going for a refreshing swim at Tuhey Pool or Prairie Creek Reservoir. You can swim safely knowing that you have trained lifeguards employed by Muncie YMCA. Plus, you may have even learned how to swim during swim lessons at Muncie YMCA’s downtown location.

  4. Whether it’s a wellness visit, a sports physical, a vaccine appointment, or an urgent care visit, nonprofit healthcare providers like Meridian Health Services or Open Door Health Services provide our community with low-cost or no cost health care.

  5. Dread that back to school supply list? Thankfully Classroom Connections of East Central Indiana helps to fill in the gap for what your classroom teacher really needs for the school year.

  6. Dogs and cats can find safe, loving homes because of animal welfare organizations like Animal Rescue Fund, Muncie Animal Care and Services, Action for Animals, and Grateful Rescue & Sanctuary.

  7. We’re gifted the opportunity to explore the history of our communities in physical spaces and exhibits through historical alliances. Delaware County Historical Alliance shares content about the people, places, and events of Muncie’s history.

  8. Whether it’s a bike ride, a jog, or a leisurely stroll, you’ve probably used one of our community’s trails, parks, or nature preserves to get active and become one with the outdoors. Cardinal Greenways, Red-tail Land Conservancy, and the City of Muncie preserve, nurture, and maintain dozens of outdoor spaces that contribute to quality of place.

  9. More than 17% of homes in Delaware County are food insecure, which counts for more than 19,000 people, likely someone you know. Hunger relief organizations such as Second Harvest Food Bank, Inside Out, and many other food pantries are often the only source of nutritious food for families.

  10. Libraries not only provide access to books, music, and movies, they also provide a sense of community and access to technology. Public libraries like Muncie Public Library, and those in Yorktown, Daleville, and Eaton provide unique spaces for community members to learn, connect, and socialize. All for free.

You can experience the impact of local nonprofits throughout Muncie.
